Las Cruces Breaks Ground on Fire Station 9

Staff Report / LasCruceslocal.org

The City of Las Cruces is set to break ground on Fire Station 9 on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. The project, which costs $9.4 million, was approved by voters through a General Obligation Bond in 2022. Fire Station 9 will serve the growing neighborhoods north of Highway 70 on the City’s East Mesa.

The groundbreaking ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. at the site located at 3900 Central Ave, near Sonoma Ranch Boulevard. Members of the public are welcome to attend. Las Cruces Mayor Eric Enriquez, District 5 Councilor Becky Corran, and Fire Chief Jason Smith will speak at the event.

Fire Station 9 is designed to address the increasing need for emergency services in one of the fastest-growing areas of Las Cruces, which has seen rapid development in recent years. The new fire station will cover 12,000 square feet and construction is expected to begin in September, with completion anticipated in early 2026.

The ceremony will be available for viewing on the City’s YouTube Channel and Facebook page.
