Las Cruces Breaks Ground on New Fire Station

Staff Report / LasCruceslocal.org

Yesterday, the City of Las Cruces held a groundbreaking ceremony for Fire Station 9 on the East Mesa. The project, which is budgeted at $9.4 million, is funded through the 2022 General Obligation Bond. It aims to serve the growing neighborhoods north of Highway 70.

Key speakers at the event included Mandy Guss, Director of Communications, who represented Mayor Eric Enriquez, along with District 5 Councilor Becky Corran and Fire Chief Jason Smith. They emphasized the significance of the new fire station in addressing the needs of the expanding community, which is seeing hundreds of new homes and businesses.

Construction on Fire Station 9 is set to begin this month, with an expected completion date in early 2026. The event was attended by members of the community and was also streamed live on YouTube and Facebook for those who could not attend in person.
