Fire Station 9 Groundbreaking Marks Community Milestone

Staff Report / LasCruceslocal.org

The groundbreaking for Fire Station 9 took place yesterday on the City’s East Mesa in Las Cruces, New Mexico. This project, which costs $9.4 million, is funded by the 2022 General Obligation Bond. Fire Station 9 will serve the rapidly growing neighborhoods north of Highway 70.

Mandy Guss, the Director of Communications, spoke on behalf of Mayor Eric Enriquez during the event. Joining her were District 5 Councilor Becky Corran and Fire Chief Jason Smith, who emphasized the significance of the new station in addressing the needs of the expanding community, which includes hundreds of new homes and businesses.

Construction of Fire Station 9 is set to begin this month, with completion expected in early 2026. The groundbreaking event was attended by community members and was also live-streamed on the city’s YouTube Channel and Facebook page.
