Library Hosts Thanksgiving and Heritage Month Events

Staff Report / LasCruceslocal.org

Las Cruces Public Libraries will host a Library Lab program for children in kindergarten through 5th grade at the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The sessions will take place every Wednesday at 4 PM.

On November 13, participants will celebrate Thanksgiving by writing and decorating cards for isolated senior citizens in Las Cruces. These cards will be distributed by Meals on Wheels drivers to seniors who may spend the holiday alone. In addition to this, attendees will create Thankfulness cards for special people in their lives and make turkey-shaped crafts.

On November 20, the focus will be on National American Indian Heritage Month. The program will feature an archaeological excavation activity and emphasize the importance of leaving artifacts in their original locations. This session will follow a Native American Storytelling Show and Tell, conducted by Alex Mares, a Park Ranger Interpreter from Mesilla Valley Bosque State Park. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early for this informative presentation.

Caregivers are welcome to join the children in these activities.
