The City of Las Cruces is organizing a Shopping Cart Ordinance Overview Meeting to assist local businesses in understanding and complying with the recently adopted ordinance. The ordinance makes it a violation of municipal code for shopping carts to be removed from a business establishment's premises. Stores providing carts for customers need to prevent cart removal and facilitate their retrieval.

The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 10, 2024, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Las Cruces City Hall Council Chambers. Representatives from Community Development and Las Cruces Police Department will be present to answer questions. Businesses can find more information on the Shopping Cart Ordinance on the City's website.

Every two years, businesses must renew their exemption or shopping cart plan if no more than six carts have been removed from the premises within the previous 90 days. Business owners must submit a written renewal application by July 1 of the renewal year, along with a statement confirming cart compliance. The meeting will be televised on Comcast, Cable channel 20, and the City's YouTube Channel.
